maybe only one first round defenseman could be labelled bust right now (teubert) but forbort and hickey are still massive reaches, especially when they were taken far earlier than most had projected.

as for the blake trade, deadmarsh and miller clearly panned out pretty well for the time, but jared aulin surpassed roman vopat for "key prospect who became irrelevant in deal for star player." and yes, given how deep that draft year was, to have 3 first rounders and somehow avoid coming up with more was painful.

fully agree that the current org drafts with much more purpose and structure that never existed before. we know what a kings team is going to look and feel like, for better or worse. and the development of players drafted beyond the first round has been a revelation.

Hexy is trying to put us on this path too. The past couple drafts have been pretty exciting. Kings east maybe

Man, 2003 Draft was brutal. Deep draft, three first rounders and we miss on Perry, Twice!!! Then in the second round draft Pushkarev right before Bergeron and four picks later Weber. As much as I hate to say it, Anaheim drafts really well in most of the drafts.
I'm glad we finally saw the light. Now if we could just stop dealing away our first's!!!

The trend is to Draft them and then trade them to Carolina for guys who play for all of 2 months.

He may make the team but probably gets top-line minutes in Charlotte to start the year.

Will probably play with Sergei Tolchinsky and Derek Ryan.

Good place for him to excel.

I tracked his ice time in Ontario a few games, was only seeing about 13-14 minutes if it was a game with no special teams. He was essentially bottom six.
